Anglo American Platinum Limited (“Amplats”) congratulates the 2011 matriculants with a remarkable improvement in performance from the immediate past years. Amplats is particularly pleased with the skills supply pipeline for the requisite skills for sustainable growth and meaningful transformation of the mining industry, which remains the fulcrum of the South African economy.
In addition to our existing dedicated skills development programme, we are pleased to announce a once off support for top matric students from disadvantaged families in both our platinum Provinces of Limpopo and North-West.
In Limpopo, Amplats has made available R1 000 000 to sponsor the first year tertiary requirements for 50 top learners from poverty stricken families.
“The sponsorship is not restricted to mining related areas of learning; however, the students who select mining related studies and meet the requirements can be eligible for Amplats’ bursaries,” says Mary Jane Morifi, Executive Head: Corporate Affairs. .
In the North West Province, Amplats is providing laptop computers to top students, equipping them with the tools they will require while enrolled in tertiary institutions.
“Our involvement seeks to equip and provide a platform for students to realise their dreams in order to make a positive contribution to the future economic growth and development of their communities, concludes Mary Jane.
