Unlocking value across the supply chain

Our expectations

Be the industry leader

Anglo American Platinum shares Anglo American’s Supply Chain vision – to be the industry leader and global benchmark for Supply Chain value creation.

In support of this vision we aim to support the business in unlocking value in all steps of the mine value chain in order to be a global leader in PGMs, from resource to market, for a better future for all.

We have developed focused objectives, strategies and tactics to support our vision and mission, whilst ensuring that all of our actions are always underpinned by our values. We focus on a service orientated approach to stakeholders across the organisation.

Our supply chain

Our key target for Supply Chain in 2014 was a value delivery target of USD 122 million; total Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) spend of 60%; local HDSA spend of 18% and regional HDSA spend of 22%.

Our Supply Chain manages a total inventory value in excess of ZAR 2.0 billion, and process an average of approximately 45,000 purchase orders every month.

The key areas the Supply Chain operates in are as follows:

  • Local Procurement – the process of obtaining personnel, services, supplies, and equipment from local or indigenous sources.
  • Supplier Development – the process of working with certain suppliers on a one-to-one basis to improve their performance for the benefit of the buying organisation.
  • Category Management – a purchasing concept in which the range of products or services purchased by the organisation is broken down into discrete groups of similar or related products or services and managed centrally.
  • Project Procurement – is the systematic process of identifying and procuring goods and services for a project.
  • Contract Management – administrative activities associated with handling of contracts.
  • Physical Supply Chain – warehousing, distribution and logistics management.
  • Performance & Governance – performance tracking and compliance monitoring.

The standard for doing business

At Anglo American Platinum, our commitment to partnership is not a ‘nice to have’ or a result of doing business. It is at the core of our values, it is central to how we think and it is at the heart of how we conduct and talk about our business.

Suppliers are able to use Speak Up, a confidential reporting service to raise concerns about potentially unethical, unlawful or unsafe conduct or practices involving the Group.

Our commitment

Anglo American Platinum has a commitment to safety and sustainable development to ensure we act consistently across the Group in relation to safety, health, social development and the environment. The four ‘Way’ documents (Occupational Health, Safety, Environment v1 & v2 and Social) guide how we establish systems for managing these issues at Group, business unit and site level. We expect all existing and prospective suppliers to read these documents and become familiar with them in order to help Anglo American deliver on their commitment and be aligned on the ‘Way’ we do business together.

In partnership, we make a real difference to South Africa. South Africa’s future belongs to all of us. Through the power of true partnerships we believe we can support Government to deliver on its mining sector objectives.

Real Mining. Real People. Real Difference.
