Anglo American Platinum confirms that it is in discussions with Sibanye

Anglo American Platinum Limited (“Anglo American Platinum” or “the Company”) announces that despite the challenging labour environment, underlying operational performance has improved for key assets this year (excluding the strike impacted period). Following the quick and successful ramp-up, the Company will likely deliver 1.8 million platinum ounces, at the upper end of guidance provided in Q3 for FY2014. Production guidance will increase to between 2.3-2.4 million platinum ounces in 2015, 2.4-2.5 million platinum ounces in 2016 and 2.5-2.6 million platinum ounces in 2017 primarily due to the commencement of production from Styldrift, our joint venture with Royal Bafokeng Platinum, anticipated increase in purchase of concentrate from third party projects, and productivity improvements at own productions.

Anglo American Platinum Limited (Anglo American Platinum or “the Company”), the world’s largest primary producer of platinum, and Ballard Power Systems, today launched the world’s first fuel cell mini-grid electrification field trial. The system is being trialled as a provider of electricity to remote communities where the cost of electrification via an expansion of the national grid may be cost or technically prohibitive.

Anglo American Platinum Limited (‘Anglo American Platinum’ or ‘the Company’) reported results for the six months ended 30 June 2014 showing reduced profitability as a result of the prolonged industrial action, though partially mitigated by the sale of inventory during the period. Headline earnings decreased to R157 million compared to R1.3 billion in 2013; profit attributable to shareholders was R429 million or R1.64 per share; and headline earnings was R0.60 per share.

Johannesburg, 18 June - Platinum producers, Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) can confirm that each company has received written feedback from Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) president Joseph Mathunjwa. This follows an ‘in principle’ agreement reached between the companies and AMCU leadership last week. AMCU committed to take this agreement to their members at the various mass meetings to receive a mandate from their members to sign an agreement.

Johannesburg 20 May 2014 – Platinum producers Anglo American Platinum Limited (Amplats), Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats) and Lonmin Plc (Lonmin) advise that the companies and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) have agreed to mediation relating to the wage dispute between the parties, to be facilitated by the Labour Court for a period of up to three days. The mediation process will begin tomorrow, 21 May 2014, to be overseen by Judge Rabkin-Naicker.

Anglo American Platinum Limited (“Anglo American Platinum” or “the Company”) today reported a return to profitability with an operating profit of R2.0 billion for the 12 months to December 2013, up from last year’s loss of R6.33 billion. Revenue increased by 22% to R52.4billion, driven by higher sales volumes and the impact of the weakening Rand/USD exchange rate. Headline earnings increased to R1.5 billion from the loss of R1.5 billion incurred in 2012. The Company recorded headline earnings attributable to ordinary shareholders of R5.56 per share, compared to the loss of R5.62 per share in 2012.
